Active members of the Barnstable County Fire Chief’s Association (BCFCA) consists of the Fire Chief representing each of the 21 Towns and Fire Districts in Barnstable County including Nantucket Fire Department and Massachusetts Military Reservation. Associate members include Cape and Islands Emergency Medical Services, Barnstable County Fire Rescue Training Academy, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Communications Division, Cape Cod National Seashore and the Forest Warden for Massachusetts District One.

The BCFCA was formed in the 1950’s with its primary focus on training. The Association helped guide the creation of the Barnstable Fire Training Academy. In later years, the site became managed by employees of Barnstable County with guidance and support from the Association. Today, the BCFCA is active in current issues and provides a forum for interaction between departments on the Cape and Islands as well as other agencies and organizations in the local area and Massachusetts.

In past years, the Association has worked at providing educational opportunities for its members through local presentations and seminars as well as participation in State and Federal training programs. Working together, members of the Association created an Incident Command manual and Accountability system and worked within our EMS region to create MCI and other protocols – these documents were published and distributed to all member departments. The Association helped to support a regional Hazardous Materials Team prior to it becoming a state funded entity. Other notable accomplishments include taking a primary role in the development of advanced life support EMS services on Cape Cod and support for the development of a County based CMED.
